WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT AIR CONDITIONING REPAIR

Have you ever experienced a time when your air conditioner won’t seem to work properly? If you have, it could have been a sign that there is something wrong with your AC unit. In case you run into the same problem again, you might want to take a closer look at it. When air conditioner problems remain undetected, they could lead to various problems ranging from negligible to life-threatening. Whenever you sense, there’s a problem call an expert for air conditioning repair. You’ll never know what is ahead. It is better to always fix the problems before and when they appear.

Here are reasons why you should have air conditioning repair North Myrtle Beach right away:

Air conditioner problems could possibly cause house fires

It might not be apparent at first, but there are some instances of AC failures that could lead to house fires. Problems with electronics, for instance, could easily trigger sparks that could ignite a fire. That’s why it is important to call in an HVAC specialist for air conditioning repair North Myrtle Beach, SC whenever you spot an issue with your air conditioner particularly when the problem involves electronics.

Faulty AC units can cause health problems

Air conditioning units deal with moving air around your house. However, the air that is being circulated could become contaminated when the AC unit does not get enough maintenance and cleaning. There will be some condensation during the cooling process. While air is being sucked into the air conditioner to be cooled, it goes through the filter and through the cooling coils. When the filter and coils are dirty, it then affects the quality of indoor air. And as we all know, poor indoor air quality is a silent killer.

Leaky ducts will increase energy costs and bring comfort levels down

Your ductwork is an essential component of the air conditioning system. It is what delivers air from the unit to other areas of your home. However, when there are leaks within the ductwork, it could potentially reduce efficiency, comfort levels, and increase energy costs. That’s why you should call an air conditioning contractor to inspect your ductwork for leaks and provide necessary action.

Ways to combat air conditioner problems

Follow scheduled maintenance

Make sure that your air conditioning system is working properly. To do so, be sure to follow the maintenance schedule that your HVAC contractor provided.

Consider purchasing a new unit

If your HVAC system is more than a decade old, you should consider upgrading to a newer unit. Although your system is working accordingly, it might not be as efficient as it was when you first bought the unit. Other than that, there are more efficient units out in the market that could lessen your energy costs at home.

SIGNS YOU NEED TO UPGRADE YOUR HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING

It is spring and a warm summer is on the way. This means it may be time to upgrade your HVAC system. There are signs that your HVAC system is in dire need of an upgrade. It is in your best interests to decide when it is time for an upgrade. It can be costly to repair heating and cooling systems and knowing when it is time for an upgrade will help you save time and money.

Signs your air conditioner may be failing:

Repairs are becoming increasingly frequent

Indoor air quality quickly becomes a problem

If indoor air isn’t under control, it can quickly become dangerous and unhealthy to breathe. Research has shown that indoor pollution can be worse than outside pollution. HVAC systems filter the air as it passes through. Contact your local HVAC contractor if indoor air quality is an issue. A malfunctioning HVAC system could be the cause.

The HVAC system is not maintaining a comfortable temperature inside your home

In some cases, you may hear unusual sounds coming from your system. These sounds should be reported immediately so that they don’t become more frequent. North Myrtle Beach Heating & Air can inspect the system. Sometimes the problem can be caused by wear and tear of certain components.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN HIRING AN HVAC CONTRACTOR

You should be prepared when hiring an HVAC contractor. Before you start looking on the internet for a local contractor, it is crucial that you do your research. There are many ways to find reliable contractors. It is not a good idea to hire a contractor that isn’t right for you.

We’ll be sharing some tips from the Better Business Bureau to help you find the right heating and cooling contractor. Please note that not all contractors will be the same. While some contractors can deliver outstanding results, others may not provide the same level service.

Here are some things to keep in mind when searching for an HVAC contractor

Certificate and license

This is no surprise. Qualified air conditioner repair professionals are the first thing you should look for. Do they have a license to operate? Are they able to show that they have completed the required training? These organizations run commercial and residential services, so license and certification are essential. You can contact the concerned regulating bodies to verify that the accreditation and permit they give you are valid.

Insurance policy that is active

You don’t want to have one problem after another. It is important to know that insurance policies will cover any damages that may occur during or after the repair. You will need to ensure that your contractor is insured. Most HVAC contractors in North Myrtle Beach have insurance. There are others who don’t have insurance and are not safe. Always ask for insurance coverage when you hire any professional.

Participation in local trade associations

Some people view membership in professional associations as a way to gain greater access to the sector. However, this shows service providers are qualified to do the job. Signing up for such trade groups indicates that heating and cooling professionals are competent or have the qualifications to join the team. If a professional has connections to several groups, it is easier to track their track record.

There are no felony charges and no involvement in criminal activity

Contractors in all areas can conduct background checks on their employees. North Myrtle Beach Heating & Air ensures that their employees are clean and free from any violations of the law. This is especially important for services that involve gaining entry to your home. This protection check is essential in order to prevent any criminal activity. It ensures that employees are clean and have not been convicted of any felony. This helps you to find a heating or cooling contractor who can do these checks. It will also give you comfort while your A/C system repairs are being done.

SIGNS YOU NEED TO REPLACE YOUR HEAT PUMP

As the temperature heats up  in North Myrtle Beach, a heat pump can make life easier. How can you tell if your heat pump isn’t working properly? It is possible that your heat pump isn’t cooling  as efficiently as it once did. Like all appliances, the HVAC system is not meant to last forever. It can, however, be maintained and provide many benefits. It all depends on how often you use it and the climate. Regular maintenance will make your heat pump last longer than one that’s not.

Even the best heat pump maintenance can lead to problems. These are signs that your heat pump needs to be replaced. These signs should be notified to an HVAC contractor right away to see if the system can be repaired, or if it is time to start looking for a replacement.

There are signs that your heat pump might need to be replaced

Unit not producing hot or cold air, consistent with temperature settings

Many homeowners are faced with heat pumps that don’t heat and cool. It may still produce regular air levels but the air it is releasing isn’t as hot or as cold as it is set to. The unit could be emitting cool air, despite being set to warm temperatures. Or it might not be producing warm air on cool settings. This could also occur in the opposite direction. This could mean that refrigerant levels are dropping or that the compressor is damaged. North Myrtle Beach HVAC contractors can help you diagnose the problem and offer solutions.

Diminished Air Flow

Another problem could be the complete absence of cool air coming out of the vents. A decrease in airflow could be a sign that your compressor has failed. Your heat pump system could be failing if your thermostat is set to a certain temperature but your home remains warm. Your heat pump system may need to be replaced, or your air filters may be failing.

Unique Sounds and Smells

Fully functioning heat pumps should operate silently. When your heat pump cycles, you will hear a clicking sound. This is normal. You should inspect your unit if you hear a different sound from what you are used to hearing. It could indicate that your HVAC unit is in need of repair or replacement. It is possible to smell an unusual odor. Foul smells can indicate damage to your heat pump insulation or mold growth in the ductwork.

The production or leakage of excessive moisture

A little water drop is normal. It is normal for your heat pump to drip if it is not being used. If you notice any moisture buildup or sudden rises in condensation, it is time to replace the heat pump.

North Myrtle Beach Heating & Air will help you determine whether your heat pump can still be repaired or replaced.

PROPER HEAT PUMP INSTALLATION

heat pump can be installed in your home and are a useful device. Heat pumps have the primary advantage of providing more heat and using less electricity. There are many types of air conditioners that can be used at home, including the water source, air to air unit, and geothermal heat pumps. These heating and air systems are not only used for heating, but they also function as central air conditioning systems.

They convert warm heat into cooler air during warm weather. There are many types of heat pumps that can be installed in a home, depending on the needs of the buyer. It is possible to install heat pumps in your home if you take a few simple steps to ensure that the installation goes smoothly and does not cause any damage to the vital components. To ensure that heat pumps work well, it is important to use the right type of material and the right type of ductwork.

Considerations With a New Heat Pump

Placement of Heat Pump

The pump’s exterior should be placed a few inches away from your wall. You should have enough space to allow air access. The vents should be at least two inches from your wall in order for the heat pump to move freely. Insufficient ventilation can cause a catastrophic fire. It is important to ensure that the pump doesn’t use combustible material.

You must make space for the heat pump outside. To place the heat pump North Myrtle Beach outdoors, you will need a slab made of concrete. Once the pump has been positioned, gravel should be added to the surrounding area. Because vibrations can reach your house, isolation is essential. A 3-ton heat-pump could cause damage to your ceiling if it is working at full power.

Two heat-pump handlers should be mounted in the interior of the house. It is best to keep the distance below 15 feet. If it is not, the filter wires shouldn’t be too high. You should also ensure that the tubing is properly insulated at a minimum of 1 1/2 inches. HVAC experts believe that any power-operated device is only as safe as its insulation.

Placement on the Rooftop: Anchoring on the rooftop to support the heat pump is sometimes necessary. To attach the heat pump to the roof, you can use isolation tools. It is important to ensure that the roof curb can support the pump.

Connection: To link the interior unit to the exterior, you will also need to use a copper tube. Copper tubing should also be used to place the valve cap on the pump. Once you’re done, seal the valve cap tightly and properly.

Safety

Copper tubing should be kept in an indoor unit. This will ensure that the tubing remains dry and protected. Also, the coil should never be left exposed and unprotected.

ARE HVAC SERVICE CONTRACTS A WASTE OF MONEY

Many companies offer an extended HVAC maintenance contract or service contract if you’re installing or fixing an existing HVAC system. Although such contracts could be a blessing they could also become a money waster. You can make an informed decision by learning more about these contracts as well as what their offer entails.

Here are some things you need to know about heating and air conditioning service contracts

Service contracts are agreements between you and the HVAC North Myrtle Beach SC contractor. They require you to pay a fixed fee to ensure that your HVAC system is maintained by the company.

Standard contracts include a tuneup, checkup, and maintenance that will focus on your heating system in the winter and your air conditioning system well into the summer. Some contracts include parts and service for any issues found during inspections. Others will include emergency service.

Some include priority treatment. This can save you time and discomfort if your heater fails in the cold or your air conditioner breaks down in the heat. Remember that the more services you have on your contract, the more money you will pay.

Regular maintenance

If you sign up for a service contract, your HVAC system will be inspected annually. The HVAC contractor can replace any dirty filters or find other issues that could be hindering your efficiency. This will increase your energy efficiency and make your system more efficient overall. It is better to have your HVAC contractor inspect your system once a year than wait for them to become costly or destroy your system.

HVAC Service Agreements may be more expensive than repairs.

Most homeowners don’t want to purchase an HVAC service contract. This is due to the associated cost. It often depends on the services being provided. The cost of an HVAC service contract might not be worth it if the system is still under warranty. Warranty coverage must cover any major repairs.

Some manufacturers require routine maintenance. It is possible that the contract will cost more than the service or repair it provides. You will still have to pay the annual cost regardless of how many times you have had repairs done. If your system can go without major repairs for many years and you still have to pay $250 per year for service contracts, it’s likely that you are paying more than what it’s worth.

You should also consider joining the Peak Performance Club. It’s an exclusive membership program for clients who would like their HVAC systems to be maintained for the long-term. It offers several benefits such as fewer repairs and more system efficiency.

North Myrtle Beach Heating & Air Conditioning can help you learn more about HVAC service contract options.

WHY YOU SHOULDN’T DO DIY HVAC REPAIR

Although DIY is a great concept for attempting to build a coffee table or converting an ordinary jar into a creative and colorful centerpiece, there are certain repairs or projects that need the technical know-how of a trained expert. Once something goes terribly wrong in your home, it can be very tempting to try to fix it yourself. Unfortunately, this commonly results in costly damages and potentially hazardous situations especially when it involves your HVAC units. Understand why it is better to hire a pro when it comes to HVAC repair.

DIY HVAC Repair Can Be Dangerous

What you don’t know can hurt you. Heating and cooling units are highly technical and utilize a significant amount of voltage electricity. It is best to avoid these levels of electricity especially if you have no idea what you are doing. Apart from that, heating and cooling appliances also utilize refrigerants and chemicals, which you are most likely not familiar with.

Working with these chemicals can be dangerous if the right precautions are not followed. With proper training and the use of the right safety gear, you can avoid getting injured or getting exposed to hazardous chemicals that are used in these systems. In some instances, handling these chemicals likewise needs certification.

It Requires Specialized Tools

You can’t try to build a table without a saw and a hammer, right? This holds true for North Myrtle Beach HVAC repair. You need professional and specialized tools to correctly identify and repair issues. Without such tools, you are at risk of creating bigger problems in the unit.

Small Issues Can Become Bigger Problems

What might look like a simple problem to you could be a sign of a much bigger issue. Even more difficult is diagnosing the real issue with the symptoms concealed. If there is a problem with your unit, have a HVAC contractor inspect it to make sure that you are not simply patching an issue that will eventually become an inconvenient, dangerous, and costly problem later on.

Small issues can easily become bigger problems. The most detrimental decision you can make is to try your hand at fixing something that you have no knowledge of. One wrong move can cause even more damage to the unit than there was, to begin with. The more you try to fix, the higher the risk of causing problems to the unit that could be beyond repair.

Replacement Can Be Tricky

Without the extensive knowledge of an HVAC contractor like North Myrtle Beach Heating & Air Conditioning, it is hard to determine what your home needs when it comes to the capacity and size of an HVAC unit. Making these decisions on your own can result in overspending on an HVAC unit that is not suitable for your home.

When thinking about a new HVAC unit, you have to do your research. But it is also important to talk to a certified HVAC technician to make sure that you make the right choice for your home. By consulting a professional HVAC technician to make sure that you are making the best choice for your needs in terms of comfort and efficiency.

By hiring a professional to handle HVAC repairs and maintenance, you can make sure that you’ll have a safe and efficient HVAC unit. What are you waiting for? Call North Myrtle Beach Heating & Air Conditioning now.

THE BENEFITS OF HVAC UPGRADES FOR HOMEOWNERS

Do you still use your HVAC system from 10 years ago? Do you find yourself calling North Myrtle Beach HVAC contractors every time you have heating or cooling problems? Don’t let your system die on you before you replace it. An older system will increase your annual utility bills. It will also add costs because of constant repairs.

A newer Energy Star-rated unit could save you up to $200 per year and make your home much more comfortable than the older model. Even though the savings may seem small when you consider the cost of buying a new HVAC system, it will be well worth the added convenience.

Things to remember when upgrading your HVAC system

Make sure your HVAC system is properly sealed and insulated before you upgrade it. A properly programmed thermostat is also a must. HVAC systems are most effective when all components attached to them work as they should.

Choose the right system

You have many options depending on where your HVAC contractor has given you permission to upgrade. A new HVAC system in the United States would require you to purchase a unit that is specific to your location. It is much more efficient to combine an electrical cooling unit with natural gas furnace for most of the country. Heat pumps are a better option for those areas that have a moderate climate.

While it is possible to repair your HVAC and replace parts, this would not work if the unit is more than a decade old. Older units are less efficient and may eventually break down. Look for units with higher efficiency ratings and always choose newer models. Energy Star models can often be more efficient than standard models by about 10-15%. This is a significant amount of money when you convert it into annual bills.

Choose the right size

When it comes to HVAC systems, size is crucial. Even if the unit is high-efficiency, a smaller unit will be less efficient than one that your home needs. You may also have to be careful if you buy a unit with a larger capacity than you actually need. North Myrtle Beach HVAC systems humidify the air inside your home. A larger unit can cool the air quickly without dehumidifying it completely, which leaves room for mold growth.

Professionals should handle installation

Incorrect installation of HVAC systems can lead to a 30% reduction in efficiency. It is important to hire professionals who are qualified for the job. Installation is a different matter than buying a new, efficient unit. This is where man and machine meet. The efficiency of your HVAC system now depends on how it is installed in your home. To get the most out of your HVAC system, make sure you hire the right contractor.

COMMON PROBLEMS CAUSED BY INCORRECT HVAC INSTALLATION

Top quality installation is as important as picking out the best HVAC system for your house. The installation of your heating and cooling system has a significant effect on the lifespan and performance of your system. Given that, it is important for you to know the things you need to be mindful of when selecting an HVAC installation and repair company. If you don’t and just choose the first one you come across with then you can expect to encounter any of these problems.

HVAC Problems

Reduced Indoor Comfort

Errors during the HVAC installation North Myrtle Beach could waste energy and result in an uncomfortable interior. The inadequate comfort control may be brought on by performance problems due to the incorrect installation of the unit. Some of the most common concerns include uneven temperature and reduced amounts of heating or cooling throughout the house. Aside from that, a correct installation of the HVAC unit will imply that the new system will function according to its own set of specifications.

Decreased System Lifespan

Higher energy consumption is not only the result of an incorrect HVAC installation but also a decreased system lifespan. A unit that is not set up based on the right specifications is much more likely to malfunction earlier compared to a correctly installed one. A wrong installation will force the HVAC unit to work incorrectly, which will cause a lot of stress on the unit. HVAC components will also deteriorate prematurely. With reputable HVAC contractors that have the appropriate qualifications and certifications.

Reduced Efficiency

Incorrect installation can likewise lead to decreased efficiency. Even though the unit you purchased has been rated highly in terms of its performance, it will still not be able to reach its full potential if it is not installed properly. When it comes to savings, the system can wind up costing you more money when they are not installed correctly. You have to work with experienced HVAC contractors that have the proper certifications as well as qualifications.

Incorrect Drain Installation

In case the overflow drains are improperly installed by an HVAC contractor North Myrtle Beach, it will run the risk of leaking. The water leaks can find its way through your ceilings and walls. When this happens, your home could suffer extensive damage and the system might even be flooded. Water drains that are not at the most suitable pitch, then it would be almost impossible to get rid of the moisture from the ductwork. Additionally, if you do not hire a reputable HVAC contractor, you might find it hard to get the best results even if you install a brand new unit.

Undersized Ductwork

There are several factors that are involved in determining the correct size of the ductwork that your home needs. A ductwork with the incorrect size can make your unit become less efficient and work much harder than it should. The constant overworking of the unit can cause the compressor to deteriorate prematurely, which could cost you a lot.

HOW TO FIX THE MOST COMMON HVAC PROBLEMS

Although HVAC systems are well-known for their reliability, they have limitations. If your HVAC system experiences a problem, it is usually a stressful situation that must be resolved immediately.

It is highly recommended that you have a basic understanding of common problems and solutions in order to ensure your system runs smoothly at all times. Some problems are easy to fix on your own, while others will require the assistance of a professional HVAC contractor like North Myrtle Beach Heating & Air Conditioning.

Common HVAC Problems

Condenser Fan Motor

The contactor is part of the condenser fan motor. It works when there is a cooling need in order to create an electric connection. This will activate the motor. The compressor and the blower motor can both have contactors. Deterioration in the fan motor of the condenser compressor is the most common problem. The contactor may also become pitted, making it difficult for electricity to flow. This can prevent the condenser fan motor from starting correctly. The capacitor is another component of the motor that could cause problems with the HVAC system. The capacitor gives the compressor a slight boost in torque.

If your HVAC system is not cooling the room, contact an HVAC contractor to inspect the fan motor. He can also replace the contactor if necessary. If the capacitor is damaged, a HVAC contractor can replace it.

Motor for the Evaporator Blower

NMB-HVAC-300x300.jpgYou should also check the HVAC unit’s Evaporator Blower Motor. It has capacitors and a contactor. Blowing the fuse is one of the most common problems. The fuse protects the motor from excessive heat when the heating system is running. If your HVAC system isn’t working properly, the fuse may have flipped on and needs to be replaced. If you are unsure how to replace the breaker, it is strongly recommended to hire an HVAC contractor.

Condenser coil

The condenser coil is located outside. They get dirty easily and should be replaced at least once per year. An HVAC contractor should clean the HVAC system if the grime or dirt gets worse. You should clean the HVAC unit and trim or completely remove any tall plants near the condenser. They can block airflow.

Thermostatic expansion valve

The thermostatic expansion valve is designed to inform the HVAC unit when and what it should do. Sometimes the thermostat may be turned off incorrectly or accidentally. Before you call for help, make sure the thermostat is on. If the thermostat doesn’t light up, it could be the thermostatic expansion valve. It could be that the thermostatic expansion valve isn’t working properly, or that the batteries need to be replaced. Before you hire a local HVAC contractor, make sure the thermostat is on and all settings are correct. Do not hesitate to call a professional if the problem seems complicated.

Compressor

The compressor is the heartbeat of an HVAC system. The compressor will stop working if it is not properly charged with refrigerant liquid. Overcharging the unit with liquid refrigerant can cause liquid slugging. You should consult a North Myrtle Beach HVAC contractor if you are unsure about the right amount of refrigerant. The compressor will function at its best when it has the correct amount of liquid refrigerant.
